In this class, we’ll have the assistance of the subject matter experts from General Finishes and Apollo Sprayers! We’ll cover finishing techniques – wood preparation, staining, color layering and top coating, and we’ll discuss the reasons for selecting the various finishes, based on the desired outcome of the project. We will be finishing a couple of pieces of furniture, so you can see the finished results in the class.
In the process, we will incorporate the theory behind HVLP Spraying and the technique of spray finishing. Our goal here is to “de-mystify the art of spray finishing”. Most people do not realize how simple it is to spray finish, especially with the best-in-class Apollo HVLP spraying system.

We will cover hardwood lumber grading; common defects and their impact on the wood and your wood project; & wood movement and project design considerations, as a result of wood movement.
We will also review sheet goods – grades, uses and types.

At this session we will identify a variety of hand tools, their names, and how they are used. It will include measuring and layout tools, cutting tools, and slicing/smoothing tools. We will also discuss how to choose the ones that will work best for you.

In this class, we will discuss a variety of power tools used in the art of woodworking. Covered will be the most common power tools: Jointer, Planer, Table Saw, Band Saw, Router/Router Bits, Drills/Drill Press and the Orbital Sander. We will also touch briefly on the various Belt Sanders, the Lathe and the always important – Dust Collector.
We will review the parts of the various machines and their adjustments, safety tips for each machine and the tuning and maintenance of the equipment.

This session follows up on the HAND TOOLS and POWER TOOLS sessions where we will discuss how to maintain and sharpen them. We will discuss how to clean off such things as table saw blades and demonstrate how to sharpen a variety of tools such as scrapers, chisels, plane irons, and saws

In this class, we’ll discuss the many uses of hardwood veneer, the pros and cons of using hardwood veneers over solid hardwood, veneering tools and supplies, such as adhesives, shooting boards, veneer saws, substrates and water tape. We’ll show you how to cut veneer, create perfect seams, glue your pieces to a substrate, the proper use of substrates and how to trim veneer to size. Well also cover inlays and the process of cutting your own veneers. In addition, we will demonstrate how to re-saw lumber to make your own veneer.
