About Us

Bull Valley Hardwood was formed in 2015 by Silvio, Dan, and Brian Deserto – three generations of woodworkers who have lived in the Bull Valley area of McHenry County, Illinois for nearly 50 years. Our philosophy is simple: Provide our customers with the highest quality lumber and woodworking supplies, to help them create the highest quality furniture, cabinetry, and woodworking projects possible.

Our “log-to-lumber” approach means that from the time the logs are unloaded at our site, precision-cut with our state-of-the-art Baker BP Dominator saw, and dried to the perfect moisture level in our Nyle dehumidification kilns until the time that the finished lumber is loaded into your truck at our mill-direct store, we have been “hands-on” the entire process . The only way could make it more complete would be to own the forests, too!

So, whether you are looking for traditional hardwood lumber, crotchwood slabs, live-edge slabs, book-matched or boards that have been flitch-cut in log-sawn order, crafting wood, turning blanks, or unique one-of-a-kind pieces, please give us a call. We also welcome specialty or custom orders, too. We will do everything possible to accommodate your needs. And if it is something you will need on a regular basis – let us know that, too. We’ll do our best to keep it in stock, so you won’t have to wait.

We hope you’ll stay in touch, even after your project is done. If you’re especially proud of your project (as you should be), email us a photo or two, and we’ll post them in our “ Show Us Your Stuff” page. If you would like to sell your project, let us know that, too – and we’ll post it in our “ Consignment Corner” page....for free!

Our goal is to provide treetop-to-tabletop services 100% of the time. There may be times, however, when, due to higher-than-normal demand, we may need to bring pre-cut lumber into our store. If this ever happens, we promise to be as selective, if not more so, than we would be if we were building a project from the wood ourselves.
